Hey, I'm Emma
Project manager. Parent. Expat living in Zurich, Switzerland.
A few years ago, I relocated here with my family. What started as a temporary contract slowly turned into a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Started
Moving to Switzerland wasn't in the grand plan. Like many international relocations, it began as a chance at work and soon grew into something far more significant.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, and raised expectations. Routine tasks felt tougher than expected.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning on the fly. Yet gradually, routines took shape. We found places that fit us, connected with other families, and began building something that felt secure.
Why I Built SilentCottageNest
Most online guidance was either corporate relocation advice or shallow tourism content. What was missing was an honest, everyday family viewpoint.
This site exists to bridge that gap — practical guidance drawn from real life in Switzerland.
What This Site Does (And Doesn't)
This site is:
- Hands-on experience from living in Switzerland
- Centered on family life and everyday realities
- Updated whenever something truly changes
This site isn't:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- Not a sponsored review platform
- Not a generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in Switzerland continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll continue documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Zurich or anywhere in Switzerland, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Best regards,
Emma
